🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

According to the family, they are told that their son, who has since been identified as Brian Njunge Ndungu, reportedly died by suicide, but the state in which they found his body raises serious questions.

Brian, an architecture student at Kiambu National Polytechnic (KINAP), was arrested over allegations of theft involving household items belonging to a neighbor, a few days after moving into a new apartment in the Kiambu area.

He was locked up at the Kiambu police station, but his family received calls later informing them to arrive at the station.

📌 What You Need to Know

"The person who was calling us was the caretaker. When we got to the police station, we were received by the caretaker, but we were received by two women who immediately started counselling sessions with us,” stated Brian’s sister.

The counseling session, without being told where their kin was raised, raised several questions about Brian’s wellbeing, with possibilities that something might have happened to him in the family system.

"I went to the station only to find my son hanging. It was very painful. He had blood stains on his clothes,” stated Brian’s mother.

Police confirmed the incident, stating that Brian is suspected of using a mattress cover to hang himself.

"As police officers, we don’t know him; we just arrested him. There is nobody who has anything against him, and, unfortunately, he died. At the same time, in our custody,” stated Kiambu East police commander Elema Sora while confirming the incident.
