The Wantam Movement has reaffirmed that it is an independent, non-partisan citizens' initiative with no affiliation to any politician, political party or coalition, while announcing a public debate for opposition presidential hopefuls as part of its digital flagbearer selection process ahead of the 2027 General Election.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 16, the movement's Advisory Committee said its sole objective is to provide Kenyans with a platform to express their preferred opposition leadership through the Wantam Digital Election System.

The committee also announced that it has invited all presidential and deputy presidential aspirants opposed to the Kenya Kwanza administration to a stakeholders' meeting on July 22 to discuss the digital election system and preparations for the planned selection exercise.

"The WANTAM Advisory Committee wishes to reaffirm that it is an independent, non-partisan citizens' initiative and is not affiliated with or acting on behalf of any politician, political party or political coalition," the statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke read in part.

📌 What You Need to Know

According to the committee, the People's Flagbearer Digital Selection Process will take place on July 25 and 26 through the movement's online platform, where participating supporters will vote for their preferred presidential aspirant .

The first round of voting will narrow the field to the five candidates who receive the highest number of votes.

Those five aspirants will then take part in a public debate, where they will present their leadership agenda and vision before a final round of digital voting is conducted.

The committee said the final vote will determine the movement's preferred presidential candidate and running mate.

It added that the digital selection process is intended to be transparent, inclusive and secure while encouraging greater citizen participation in leadership selection.

The movement maintained that it is engaging all stakeholders to ensure the process reflects the will of participating Kenyans rather than political negotiations among leaders.
