The Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) has appealed to the public to comment on the new proposed water tariff by three water companies in Makueni, West Pokot and Samburu counties.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a note issued on Tuesday, October 6, the authorities received applications for water services retail licences and tariff adjustments from the three providers, which were part of the review process.

WASREB said the proposed tariffs are supposed to enable water companies to recover the cost of providing services as well as maintain sustainable operations and support investments aimed at improving water services in the area.

Residents and other stakeholders are invited to give their views during the public consultation meetings set to take place in the three counties.

📌 What You Need to Know

The first meeting will be held in Makueni on October 27, 2026, at Mbumbuni AIC Church in Mbumbuni Market, while the second will take place in West Pokot on October 28, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall of Mercy Centre Vocational Training College at Chepareria Water Scheme.

The third meeting will take place in Maralal Town, Samburu County, on October 29, 2026, at Ripalat Hotel.

All three meetings are scheduled to begin at 10am, with the consultations being conducted in a hybrid format to allow both physical and virtual participation.

The tariff review process comes as other water providers have also received revised charges, and the public can make oral or written submissions, as well as ask questions in relation to the water services.

The tariff review process comes as other water providers have also received revised charges from early this year.

For instance, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company's approved residential tariff currently stands at Ksh68 per cubic metre for the first six cubic metres, rising to Ksh85 for consumption between seven and 20 cubic metres and Ksh91 for 21-50 cubic metres.
