🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The Kenyan, identified as Eric, was arrested in Hamblen County, Tennessee, after the crash, with ICE officers saying he holds a Texas commercial driver’s licence and was training a commercial driver when the accident occurred.

"A 287(g) Task Force partner arrested Eric Maloba, an illegal alien from Kenya, following a tractor-trailer crash. Investigators determined Maloba was reportedly instructing a commercial driver’s license trainee," the officers revealed.

According to Immigration officials, the Kenyan entered America legally in October 2018 but overstayed his authorised period of admission in April 2019.

📌 What You Need to Know

Following his arrest, the Kenyan national was placed in custody pending immigration proceedings, where the officers will determine his legal status and whether he should be removed from the country.

"Eric's case shows exactly why Secretary Markwayne Mullin is cracking down on illegal aliens with CDLs, strengthening border security, encouraging 287(g) partnerships and ramping up removals," ICE stated.

The development comes days after the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published the names and photographs of 125 nationals from five African countries facing removal from America.

Kenyans accounted for 49 of those listed, the largest number among the five nationalities, followed by Ghana with 44 nationals, while Mauritania had 12, Morocco 11 and South Africa nine.

The list revealed that the foreigners had been convicted of various crimes, including drug trafficking, armed robbery, homicide, assault, child molestation and cruelty towards a child.

A separate DHS update through its list of Worst of Worst illegal immigrants also listed 112 Nigerians facing removal, with their names and photographs made publicly available.
