Healthcare providers have been put on alert after the Social Health Authority (SHA) announced that their current contracts will expire on September 30 at 11:59 p.m.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a notice, SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi urged healthcare providers and facilities seeking to continue serving SHA beneficiaries to apply for new contracts and complete the contracting process before October 1.
"The Social Health Authority notifies all healthcare providers/ healthcare facilities that current provider contracts will expire on 30 September 2026 at 11:59 p.m," a notice from the authority said.
SHA warned that facilities without an executed contract for the 2026–2029 cycle will not be permitted to offer services to beneficiaries after the deadline.
📌 What You Need to Know
Service providers who fail to renew their contracts will also have their access to the SHA provider portal switched off, effectively preventing them from continuing to provide services under the authority.
SHA urged providers that have not completed the contracting process to make arrangements to transfer patients receiving ongoing care to facilities that have secured contracts with SHA.
The authority said the measure was necessary to ensure continuity of treatment for beneficiaries and avoid interruptions when the current agreements lapse.
The deadline comes as SHA moves into a new provider contracting cycle running from October 1 to June 30 2029 . The new framework, known as HAKIKA, was launched alongside an electronic contracting platform on September 18.
The new contracts will cover services financed through the Primary Health Care Fund (PHCF), Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).
SHA launched the E-Contracting Platform to allow facilities to submit applications, upload supporting documents, verify licences, execute contracts and track the progress of their applications digitally.
