According to a disclosure made on Tuesday, October 13, KeNHA said the upgrading is funded by the World Bank through the Horn Africa Gateway Development Project.

Under the project, KeNHA plans to tarmac six roads, including Runogone-Kaithe Road, KEMU-Kambakia Road, Three Steers-Kambakia Road, and KEMU/Kambakia Link Road to C91.

The others to be upgraded are Eastern Bypass-Hospital Road and Western Bypass-Mate Road.

📌 What You Need to Know

As part of the construction works, KeNHA will also build two footbridges at Kaaga Boys High School and Meru National Polytechnic.

According to KeNHA, the construction works should be completed within 28 months, with constructors responsible for maintaining the roads for a further 12 months.

In its notice, KeNHA asked interested bidders to send physical bids by 11am on November 26.

“The Bid documents enclosed in a plain sealed envelope clearly marked with the Tender Number and description should be deposited in the Tender Box located at Barabara Plaza, Block C, 2nd Floor, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), off airport South Road, along Mazao Road, so as to be received on or before 26th November 2026 at 11:00 HRS local time,” KeNHA said.

Adding, “Electronic bidding will not be permitted. Late Bids will be rejected.”

Last year, President William Ruto announced plans to elevate Meru Town to city status, promising to line up funding to support the upgrade.
