The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has revealed that thousands of vehicle transfers remain incomplete, largely due to buyers who have failed to complete the applications.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The authority noted that vehicle transfer applications remain pending because thousands of buyers have not consented to the requests initiated by the sellers through the online system.

“Until a buyer gives consent, the transfer cannot be completed, meaning the seller remains the legal owner of the vehicle even after initiating the transfer process,” NTSA said.

NTSA on Tuesday, October 13, directed buyers with pending vehicle ownership transfers to log in to the NTSA service portal and either accept or decline the applications to allow the process to move forward.

📌 What You Need to Know

After accepting the consent notification, the buyers must now choose whether to accept or decline the transfer request, as well as provide the necessary details and then submit the application to NTSA for approval.

Once submission is complete, NTSA will process it and generate an electronic logbook, which is now known as the eLogbook.

“Vehicle ownership transfer applications are processed online, and that process takes one day, after which an eLogbook will be generated,” NTSA added.

This directive comes as the authority seeks to clear backlogs of pending applications, many of which are attributed to failure to complete the consent notification.

On Monday, October 12, NTSA also issued a reminder to motorists to collect their driving licence, logbooks and number plates.

Motorists can use their national identity numbers to search for uncollected smart driving licences, while vehicle or motorcycle registration numbers can be used to check for logbooks and reflective number plates.
