Beyond Game Day | Comrades, Boks, Hamilton & MTN8: What’s at Stake? | 21 August 2026

A battle over the future of the Comrades Marathon dominates this edition of Beyond Game Day as Thabiso Sithole and Vata Ngobeni unpack the breakdown between the Comrades Marathon Association, Athletics South Africa and KwaZulu-Natal Athletics. With the historic 100th running approaching, the argument moves beyond boardrooms and public statements to the questions runners actually care about: can the race proceed cleanly, what happens to official records and qualifying times if the dispute remains unresolved, and why has one of South Africa’s biggest sporting institutions reached this point? Then the rivalry takes over. Are the Springboks really undercooked before facing the All Blacks, or has recent history shifted the balance? Could another World Cup Make Siya Kolisi’s side rugby’s greatest team? The hosts also look at what a successful Ferrari chapter could mean for Lewis Hamilton’s legacy, before turning to the MTN8 and the possibility of an Orlando Pirates–Mamelodi Sundowns final.
